We spent our last few days in Provence exploring St Remy & the hospital where Van Gogh spent a year painting 150 of his most famous paintings and more of the quintessential villages of Provence. Menerbes ( another village moored on a hilltop), Bonnieux ( the movie A Good Year was filmed here featuring Russell Crowe),we then travelled over the Lourmarin mountains to visit the village of Lourmarin to discover another market & picnic under the shade of a tree beneath its renaissance chateau! (There is a market every day of the week somewhere in Provence!) Cucuron and Ansouis were our last pretty villages before we left the countryside. We headed to Avignon to stay in an old Jesuit Seminary now a hotel in the walled inner city in Avignon. Avignon is famous for it's Gothic palace Palias des Papes which was built by a Pope who abandoned Rome for 70years. Yesterday we trained up to Paris on the TVG which travels at 300km/hr to find Pete & Deb waving out the hotel window to welcome us!
